Downloading the Absolute agent for Windows and Mac devices

Typically, when a new version of the Absolute agent is released, your devices are automatically upgraded to the new version on their next agent connection to the Absolute Monitoring CenterA lightweight software component of the Absolute agent that detects software applications installed on a device. The SNG component is deployed on a device only when the device is associated with a policy group in which the Installed Software policy is activated.. However, you may want to deploy the agent manually. For example, you may want to:

  • Install the Absolute agent on newly acquired devices to enroll them in Absolute
  • Include the Absolute agent in a gold image
  • Test a new agent version on a few test devices before deploying it to your entire fleet of devices
  • NOTE  To test a new agent version before it's deployed to your devices, you first need to change from automatic to manual agent deployments.

From the Agent Management page, you can generate Windows and Mac agent packages that are stamped with your Absolute account information. You can then download each package and deploy it to one or more devices.

NOTE  To download the Absolute agent for Android devices or the Absolute for Chromebooks extension for Chromebook devices, go to the Download Packages page in the Settings area. You can also download Windows and Mac versions of the agent from the Download Packages page. For more information, see the Absolute User Guide.

To download the Absolute agent:

  1. Log in to the Absolute console as a user with Manage permissions for Version Control and Perform permissions for Agent Installer.
  2. On the navigation bar, click > Agent Management.
  3. Next to the agent version that you want to download, click and click Download Full Agent Installer.
  4. NOTE  For devices running macOS 10.15, download and install agent version 7.12 or higher. For devices running macOS 11, download and install agent version 7.14 or higher.

  5. On the Download Full Agent Installer dialog, do one of the following:
    • If you have never generated a package for this agent version:
      1. Click Generate package next to either Microsoft Windows or macOS, depending on the operating system you want to generate an agent package for. A confirmation message shows. In the background, the system processes your request and generates an agent package that is stamped for your account. This process may take a few minutes.
      2. Click Close to close the message dialog.
      3. To check the status of the package, monitor the Notifications indicator on the quick access toolbar.
      4. On the Agent Management page, click and click Download Full Agent Installer again.
      5. On the Full Agent Installer dialog, do one of the following depending on whether the agent package is generated:
        • If the agent package is generated, click Download package. The zipped agent package is downloaded. The download may take a few minutes.
        • If the agent package generation process is not yet complete, click and try again in a few minutes.
        • If the agent package failed to generate, click and try generating it again, or contact Absolute Technical Support.
    • If you have generated a package for this agent version before, click Download package. The zipped agent package is downloaded. The download may take a few minutes.
