Device Analytics report

You can use the Device Analytics report to see your Windows, Mac, and Chromebook devices that were in use during a given time period. For example, a school district may want to see how many of the Chromebooks issued to a particular school were used in the past six months. They can also compare device usage across multiple schools in their district by adding more schools (device groups) to the report.

Device usage is based on the following activity:

  • Login and Unlock:

    • A user logged in to the device, either directly or remotely, by entering their username and password on the login screen
    • A user unlocked the device, either directly or remotely, by dismissing the Lock screen (if applicable) and entering their password on the login screen

In the report, these user actions are presented as individual events with time stamps.

  • Device Activity: usage of the device presented in days, hours, and minutes of activity.

A Windows or Mac device is deemed to be in use if it unlocked. Activity ceases when the screensaver shows, or the device is locked or shut down. A Chromebook device is deemed to be in use if the display is active (not dimmed). Activity ceases when the display is dimmed, or the device is sleeping, locked, or shut down.

You can base your report on both types of activity, or just one. A device is included in the report if activity occurred on the device at any time during the selected date range.

The generated Device Analytics report consists of two components: a bar chart near the top of the page to visually compare device usage in two or more device groups, and a results grid near the bottom. The chart's horizontal axis shows bars corresponding to your selected device groups. The chart's vertical axis shows the number of devices that satisfy the report's activity and filter criteria. The results grid below the bar chart shows details about the devices.

On the Reports page, you can access this report from Absolute view or the Device category.
