Editing device field data
You can populate some of a device's device fields by entering data values in the fields. You can also update data values for an entire device group, or migrate data values from one device to another.
The Has Service Guarantee device field is not editable. To update the field for one or more devices, use the Change License action to assign or remove a license that includes the Service Guarantee.

You can't assign data values to a device's custom fields if the device has a status of Inactive, Disabled, or Reported Stolen.
To assign data values to an individual device:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Device Fields.
-
Do one of the following:
- On a device's Device Details: Custom Fields page, click Edit Device Fields.
-
On the navigation bar:
- Click
Settings >
Custom fields > View and edit device fields.
- Click Actions > Choose device.
-
On the Choose device dialog, search for the device that you want to update and select it.
If a device shows Yes in the Reported Stolen column you can't update the device's Device Field data.
- Click Request.
- Click
The View and edit device fields page opens with the selected device's Identifier shown next to Data for the Device. Both the Fixed Device Fields and the Custom Device Fields tables refresh to show any values previously assigned to this device.
- Under Field Data, enter a value in each field that you want to define.
- When you're done, click Save Changes.
- On the confirmation dialog, click Close.

You can assign data values to the device fields of all devices in a device group.
If a device group contains Inactive, Disabled, or stolen devices, you can't assign data values to the group's custom fields.
Also, data values are assigned to a device group's current membership only. If the devices in a device group change after you assign data values, the device fields of the old and new members are not dynamically updated.
To assign data values to all devices in a device group:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Device Fields.
- On the navigation bar, click
Settings >
Custom fields > View and edit device fields.
-
To select a device group:
- Click Actions > Choose device group.
- On the Group Selection dialog, search for and select a device group from the list.
- Click Continue.
The View and edit device fields page opens with the selected device group’s name shown next to Data for the Group. Both the Fixed Device Fields and the Custom Device Fields tables refresh to show the current values assigned to the devices in the device group.
-
Under Field Data, enter a value in each field that you want to define.
If a Multiple Values button shows instead of a field, there are differing values for the devices. Differing values in a data field is not unusual for devices with membership in multiple device groups. For details about updating this data, see Working with multiple data values for a device group.
- When you're done, click Save Changes.
- On the confirmation dialog, click Close.

It is possible for some devices in a device group to have different values for the same data field. If this is the case, a Multiple Values button shows under Field Data on the View and Edit Device Fields page.
You can override the existing values for some or all of the devices in a device group and assign the same value to all devices.
To change multiple values for device group to a single value:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Device Fields.
- On the navigation bar, click
Settings >
Custom fields > View and edit device fields.
- Click Actions > Choose device group.
-
On the Group Selection dialog, click the Please select a Group field and select a device group from the list.
The View and edit device fields page opens with the selected device group’s name shown next to Data for the Group. Both the Fixed Device Fields and Custom Device Fields tables refresh to show the current values assigned to the devices in the device group. If any fields have more than one value, a Multiple Values button shows under Field Data.
-
For each field that you want to assign the same value, do the following:
- Click Multiple Values.
- On the Edit Multiple Values dialog under the Action column, open the list and click Change for each data value you want to update.
- In each field that shows, enter the appropriate information for each data value.
- When you're done, click Save.
- On the confirmation dialog, click Close.
