Viewing a device's data points

On the Data Points page, you can view detailed information about the custom data points detected on a Windows device. For Mac and Chromebook devices, the Custom Data Points page is available, but it displays Custom Data is not supported on this platform.

You can access the Data Points page from any page that shows linked device identifiers in the results grid.

Due to restrictions placed on Windows 11 SE by Microsoft, data points that use PowerShell are not supported on devices running Windows SE 11.

The Data Points page applies only to Windows devices with an active data point in the Custom Data policy.

To view data points for a device:

  1. On any page that shows linked device identifiers in the first column of the results grid, such as the All Devices page in the Devices area, click the link for the device that you want to view. Summarized information about the device shows in the page header.

  2. Click the Details tab and then click Data Points.

    If the device belongs to a policy group with assigned custom data points, the following information about each active data point shows:

    • Friendly name: the name assigned to the data point in the console, or the field name

      If your user role is granted the Manage permission for Custom Data Collection and Policies, you can click the name to open the data point's configuration dialog and edit the data point.

    • Value: the value of the data point detected on the device, if available

    • Validation: the status of the data point collected for the device, including a warning or error message if a problem occurred during data collection

      The Custom Data policy for this data point is activated on this device. The data point was collected from the device and you can now view the data point in reports and the device's Device Details pages.

      • No error occurred

      The Custom Data policy for this data point is activated on the device but a warning or error occurred during collection.

      For data points that include a value, a warning occurred and the message shows what caused the warning.

      For data points that don't include a value, an error occurred and the message indicates what caused the error.

      Warning and error messages:

      • A failure occurred evaluating the data item logic, the exact error should be troubleshooted by looking at the included trace.

      • Rule evaluation for this item exceeded the configured timeout value and was terminated.

      • Rule evaluation exceeded the configured CPU threshold.

      • Rule evaluation exceeded the configured Memory threshold.

      • Rule evaluation resulted in output that exceeded the maximum data size for an individual item.

    • Last updated: the date and time the data was last updated

    If No data shows, the device doesn't belong to a policy group that is configured to collect Custom Data, or the device hasn't called in since the Custom Data policy was enabled.

  3. If you are logged in as a user with the required permissions, you can update a custom data point by clicking its Friendly name.
  4. To view all custom data points configured for your account, click View custom data.
