Managing theft reports for stolen devices
Depending on the Absolute product licenses associated with your account, theft reports may not be available.
You can manage existing theft reports in the following ways:
If the police report wasn't available when you submitted the theft report, you can edit it to update the police report file number and upload the police report.
To edit an existing theft report:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Investigations.
- On the navigation bar, click Devices.
- On the Devices sidebar, click Reported Stolen.
- In the work area, use the search field or filters to find the theft report that you want to update. You can search by device name, serial number, or Absolute Identifier. The reports are sorted by reported date, but you can change the sort order.
- Click the Report ID of the report you want to update. The Investigate Stolen Device page opens in edit mode.
- In the Police File Number field, enter the record or identifying number referenced in the police report. All other fields are read-only.
- Under Police Report Attachment, click Upload and navigate to the location of the police report. Complete the steps to upload the file. The following file formats are supported: PDF, TIF/TIFF, JPG/JPEG, GIF, and PNG.
- Click Resubmit. A Theft report updated event is logged to Event History.
You can create a clone of an existing theft report and then edit the details to create a report for another device. You may find it helpful to use the Clone option when multiple devices were stolen in the same incident.
To create a clone of an existing theft report:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Investigations.
- On the navigation bar, click Devices.
- On the Devices sidebar, click Reported Stolen.
- In the work area, use the search field or filters to find the theft report that you want to copy. You can search by device name, serial number, or Absolute Identifier. The reports are sorted by reported date, but you can change the sort order.
- Click the Report ID of the report you want to copy. The Investigate Stolen Device page opens.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Clone Report. The Investigate Stolen Device page opens in edit mode.
- Update the fields that you want to edit and upload the applicable police report.
- Click Request Investigation.
You cannot close an Investigation using the Secure Endpoint Console. If you created a report in error, or the device that you reported stolen is now found, contact the investigator to request that the investigation is closed. If an investigator has not yet been assigned, contact Absolute Technical Support.
