Purchasing licenses and managing auto-renewal
You can purchase new Absolute product licenses or renew existing licenses for your organization in the following ways:
-
For base licenses with a standard 1-, 2-, or 3-year term, you can purchase licenses and manage auto-renewal directly from the Secure Endpoint Console if your organization is based in the United States or Canada.
-
For all other license purchases and renewals, contact Absolute Sales.
The following details apply to product licenses purchased through the Secure Endpoint Console:
- Auto-renewal is enabled by default for all product licenses. This feature can be disabled at any time after purchase.
-
Purchases are processed in U.S. dollars (USD).
To purchase licenses or manage auto-renewal from the Secure Endpoint Console, your user role needs to be granted the Other Actions (Purchase) permission for Licenses. All default Administrator user roles are granted this permission.
Licenses cannot be purchased or renewed from the Secure Endpoint Console for:
-
Customers outside the United States or Canada
-
Orders exceeding USD $1,000,000
-
Certain account types that don't support in-console purchasing, such as:
-
Managed service provider (MSP) accounts
-
Accounts with license types that do not limit enrollment, such as site licenses and Enterprise License Agreements
-
-
License downgrades
-
Add-on licenses
-
Licenses with non-standard terms
To purchase or renew licenses in any of these cases, contact Absolute Sales.
When you purchase product licenses through the Secure Endpoint Console, auto-renewal is enabled by default. When auto-renewal is enabled, your subscription automatically renews for a new term of the same length when it expires, ensuring uninterrupted endpoint protection with no gaps in coverage.
Here's how auto-renewal works:
-
At 22:00:00 UTC on the day before your current subscription term expires, your saved payment method is charged for the renewal.
If you prefer to use a different payment method, update the saved payment method before 22:00:00 UTC on the day before the renewal date. UTC is always used for renewal dates, regardless of your local time zone. -
The renewal is charged at Absolute's current price at the time of renewal.
-
A new order is created with the same product, quantity, and term length as the original order. Existing license assignments carry over automatically.
-
Although auto-renewal is enabled by default, you can disable or re-enable it at any time, except during the 24-hour period immediately before your renewal date. During this window, the auto-renewal toggle is locked and cannot be changed.
To avoid being charged for the next term, you must disable auto-renewal before the 24-hour period immediately before your renewal date. UTC is always used for renewal dates, regardless of your local time zone. -
Email notifications are sent to help you manage your payment method and upcoming renewals.
What email notifications are sent?
The following email notifications are sent during the auto-renewal process:
Notification When it's sent Who it's sent to Purpose Auto-renewal enabled or disabled Whenever auto-renewal is enabled or disabled for a product -
The user who enabled or disabled auto-renewal
-
The user whose payment method is associated with the order

-

-
First retry: one day after the initial failed attempt
-
Second retry: four days after the initial failed attempt
-
Final retry: seven days after the initial failed attempt
-
The user who enabled auto-renewal
-
The user whose payment method is associated with the order
-
All users assigned to the default System Administrator role
Alerts you that the renewal payment failed and provides a direct link to update your payment method in the Secure Endpoint Console.
Email delivery times may vary depending on Stripe's configuration. Although failed payment retries are scheduled at specific intervals, the corresponding email notification may be sent several hours after the scheduled time (for example, 2 to 4 hours later). In addition to email notifications, a License purchase failed event is logged to Event History each time there is a failed payment attempt.
If you successfully update your payment details and a subsequent charge attempt is successful, the renewed order is created. The renewed order retains the original scheduled start date; the start date is not moved forward based on the date the payment is completed.
If the final renewal charge attempt fails, the subscription is canceled and auto-renewal is disabled. -
-
To view the auto-renewal status of a product purchased through the Secure Endpoint Console, you can check the Auto-renewal column in the Products report within the License management area.
Auto-renewal is automatically disabled by the system in the following situations:
-
The user who purchased the order is suspended or deleted.
-
The purchasing user's role is changed to remove the Other Actions (Purchase) permission for Licenses.
-
The product license is converted to a different product tier (for example, upgrading from one Absolute product to another). When this happens, the original license quantity is returned to zero, auto-renewal is disabled for that order, and a new order is created for the upgraded product.
-
The account's License enforcement status is switched to Disabled.
