Secure Endpoint Agent release notes - Version 7.7 Hotfixes

If automatic agent updates are disabled, you can assign an agent version to your account's Windows and Mac devices to prevent agent upgrades. To determine if you want to assign a particular agent version, review this topic to learn about the enhancements and fixes supported in each hotfix version of the Secure Endpoint Agent.

About the Secure Endpoint Agent

The Secure Endpoint Agent is a small software client that resides on devices managed in the Secure Endpoint Console. After the agent is initially installed on a new device, the agent is activated with its first connection to the Absolute Monitoring Center.

Each agent package includes software specific to its supported operating system, including the agent and its associated components, an installer, and a readme file.

System requirements

The 7.7.0.x package bundles contain Secure Endpoint Agent software that support devices running the following operating systems:

Operating system Supported versions
Windows Versions 7, 8, 8.1, and 10
macOS Versions 10.9 to 10.14

Agent improvements and fixes

The following fixes and improvements are available in each agent version:

Version Platform Fixes and improvements
7.7.0.1 Windows
  • Previously, after an Unfreeze code was used to unfreeze a frozen device, the device user was repeatedly logged out their session in some cases. This issue is now resolved.
7.7.0.2 Windows

Absolute recommends that you avoid assigning this agent version to your account as it may cause some device hardware fields to be rendered incorrectly in the Secure Endpoint Console. This issue will be resolved in the next agent release.

  • The Secure Endpoint Agent now detects the correct serial number for a NVMe hard drive. Previously, the drive's EUI-64 identifier was detected and shown in the Serial Number field in reports and the device's Device Details page.
  • When an external drive is attached to a device, the Secure Endpoint Agent now detects the correct hard drive serial numbers. Previously, the serial numbers associated with Disk 1 and Disk 2 were interchanged.
  • Some software changes have been introduced to the Secure Endpoint Agent to fine-tune the scheduling of Hardware Data Collection scans.
7.7.0.3 Windows
  • The issue introduced in agent version 7.7.0.2 is resolved. In the Secure Endpoint Console, the following device hardware fields now show the correct values:

    • Operating System:

      • Last Boot Time
      • Install Date
    • System Information: Locale
    • BIOS: Release Date
    • Network Adapters:

      • DHCP Lease Expires
      • DHCP Lease Obtained
Windows and Mac
  • A number of software changes were introduced to make the agent more robust and improve its connectivity to the Absolute Monitoring Center. As a result, device information in the Secure Endpoint Console is more up-to-date.
7.7.0.4 Windows
  • If the Secure Endpoint Agent attempts to freeze a device while a Windows software update is in progress, the agent now waits for the update to complete before freezing the device.
  • Previously, if a device was frozen by an Offline Device Freeze Policy before its associated Absolute account was upgraded from Classic Device Freeze to Absolute 7 Device Freeze, unfreezing the device in Absolute 7 may have disabled the device's Windows Registry editor and Task Manager. This issue is now fixed.
