About the Global Policy Group

Each Absolute account is configured with a Global Policy Group. Initially, all enrolled devices are associated with this default policy group, and its Hardware policy is activated.

In the Global Policy Group, you can activate all policies supported by the Absolute product licenses associated with your account. However, best practice is to create a number of custom policy groups, assign groups of devices to each group, and then activate the appropriate policies. In this way, you can apply different policies to subsets of your devices. Note that unsupported policies are also shown, but they are assigned a license status of License upgrade required.

The Global Policy Group is unique. Unlike custom policy groups, you can't perform the following actions on the Global Policy Group:

  • Edit the policy group's properties
  • Delete the policy group

Devices are automatically added to the Global Policy Group in the following scenarios:

  • A device is enrolled in your account
  • A custom policy group that contains devices is deleted

A device can belong to only one policy group. When you associate devices with a custom policy group, their association with the Global Policy Group is automatically removed.
