Creating and managing static groups
A static group is a collection of devices that you create by searching for and manually adding devices to the group. The list of devices in a static group remains the same until you add or remove a device.
The icon indicates a static group.

You can create a static group on the Devices page or by uploading a file of device identifiers.

You can use two types of static groups to organize your devices:
- Standalone: the static group is not part of a folder or another static group and resides at the highest level in the hierarchy.
- Child: the static group is contained in a folder, or it's nested under another static group.
To create a static group:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console with Manage permissions for Device Groups and folders.
- On the navigation bar, click
Devices.

Do one of the following:
- To add a standalone static group, click
next to Device Groups on the Devices sidebar and click
New static group.
- To add a child static group under a folder, click the folder on the Devices sidebar, and click
(Add static group) on the action toolbar. If you are adding the static group to an empty folder, you can also click
Add static group in the work area.
A new static group is created named Static group - <date stamp>. If a static group already exists with the same name, the group will be appended with a number.
- To add a standalone static group, click

Click in the name or description fields and update the fields. Press Enter, click
(Save Changes), or click outside the field to save the new name or description. Click
(Cancel Changes) to discard your changes.
The name can be up to 80 characters. The description can be up to 250 characters.
- On the action toolbar, click
(Add devices). You can also click
Add devices in the work area. If you don't want to add devices now, you can add them later.

On the Add devices dialog, search for devices to add to the device group.
- To find devices based on a single criterion, perform a search.
- To find devices based on multiple filter criteria, add one or more filters. The Agent status is Active filter is applied by default, but you can remove it, if desired.
If you are assigned to select device groups, you can only search for devices that belong to those groups.

In the results grid, select each device you want to include in the request. To select all devices, select the Select All checkbox in the result grid header. To select consecutive devices, select the first device and then hold down the Shift key and select the last device. You can select up to 350,000 devices. To remove all selections, click Clear all.

[Optional]To review the list of selected devices before adding them, select the Only show selected devices checkbox.
- Click Add x devices.
The new static group shows on the Device Groups sidebar, and a Static device group created event is logged to Event History.

To upload a file of device identifiers and create a static group:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console with Manage permissions for Device Groups and folders.
- On the quick access toolbar, click
(Upload device list).
- Complete the steps to upload the file of device identifiers.
- Click
Create or add to device group.
- Select the Create static group option.
- In the Group name field, enter a unique name for the device group.
- [Optional] In the Description field, enter a description.
- Click .
The new static group shows on the Device Groups sidebar, and a Static device group created event is logged to Event History.

After you have created a static group, you can add one or more devices to it.
You can't add devices to your own static permission group because it defines the devices you can manage.

To add devices to a static group:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console with Manage permissions for Device Groups and folders.
If you are updating a permission group, the Edit permission groups permission for Device Groups and folders is required.
- On the navigation bar, click
Devices.
- On the Devices sidebar, search for and then click the static group you want to update to open it in the work area.
- On the action toolbar, click
(Add devices). If the static group is empty, you can also click
Add devices in the work area.
If the
icon is grayed out, you don't have the required permissions.

On the Add devices dialog, search for devices to add to the device group by doing one of the following:
- To find devices based on a single criterion, perform a search.
- To find devices based on multiple filter criteria, add one or more filters. The Agent status is Active filter is applied by default, but you can remove it, if desired.
If you are assigned to select device groups, you can only search for devices that belong to those groups.

Select the checkbox next to the device name of each device you want to add. To select all devices, select the checkbox in the results grid header next to Device name.
If you add a device in error, clear the checkbox beside the device.
- Click Add x devices.
The devices are added to the static group, and a Static device group updated event is logged to Event History.

To upload a file of device identifiers and add devices to a static group:

Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console with Manage permissions for Device Groups and folders.
If you are updating a permission group, the Edit permission groups permission for Device Groups and folders is required.
- On the quick access toolbar, click
(Upload device list).
- Complete the steps to upload the file of device identifiers.
- Click
Create or add to device group.
- Select the Add to static group option.
- Click the Device group field and select a static group from the list.
- Click .
The devices are added to the static group, and a Static device group updated event is logged to Event History.

You can remove one, some, or all devices from a static group.
You can't remove devices from your own static permission group because it defines the devices you can manage.
To remove devices from a static group:

Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console with Manage permissions for Device Groups and folders.
If you are updating a permission group, the Edit permission groups permission for Device Groups and folders is required.
- On the navigation bar, click
Devices.
- On the Devices sidebar, search for and select the static group to open it in the work area.

In the results grid, do one of the following:
- To remove one or more devices, select the checkbox next to the device name each device you want to remove.
- To remove all devices, select the checkbox next to Devices in the results grid header.
- Click
Remove from group.
- On the Remove from group confirmation message, click Remove x devices.
The devices are removed from the static group, and a Static device group updated event is logged to Event History.

You can perform the following tasks on a static group:
- View the list of devices included in a device group
- Move the device group
- Edit the device group's name and description
- Export the list of devices in the device group
- Create a report from the device group
- Delete the device group

Perform the following actions on one or more devices in the device group:
Depending on the permissions associated with your user role, some static group functionality may not be available.
