Assigning product licenses to policy groups

NOTE  This topic applies to version 1 of the Licensing feature.

You can change the Absolute base license A license associated with a core product offering, such as Absolute Resilience, Absolute Control, or Absolute Visibility. Base licenses include a suite of features that provide key capabilities in multiple areas. and add-on licenses The license associated with additional services and capabilities that can be added on to a base license. Some add-on licenses may be included by default with a base license. assigned to a policy group. Note that because Absolute product licenses control which policies are available in a policy group A collection of devices to which a set of policies are applied., some policies may no longer be available when you change the license assignment. Also, if a policy was actively collecting data from the policy group's devices, that data will cease to be collected if the new license doesn't include the applicable policy.

To assign product licenses to a policy group:

  1. Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Policies and Licenses.

  2. On the navigation bar, click Policies > Policy Groups.
  3. On the Policy Groups sidebar, search for and click the policy group you want to update. The policy group opens in the work area.
  4. Click Settings. The product licenses currently assigned to the policy group show.

NOTE  If a warning shows in the License Status column stating that your account is oversubscribed for a particular license, you may be able to resolve the issue by assigning a different base license. Otherwise, you may need to unenroll some devices, or contact Absolute Sales to purchase more licenses.

  5. Click Assign Licenses.

The Assign Licenses page opens showing all Absolute product licenses associated with your account.

The following information shows for each license:

    • Licenses: the total number of purchased licenses
    • Remaining: the total number of available licenses

If the Licenses and Remaining counts for a product license are both zero (0), the license is expired. To renew it, contact Absolute Sales.

  6. Assign licenses to the devices in the policy group by doing the following:

    1. Under Base License, select the license you want to assign. You can select only one base license.

NOTE  If a base license is grayed out, you can't assign the license because the policy group contains more devices than there are licenses available, or the license is expired. To proceed, select a base license with sufficient licenses available. If this isn't an option, you can unenroll devices that you want to retire, or contact Absolute Sales to renew an existing product license or purchase more licenses.

The selected base license now shows a blue background, a selected button, and its Remaining value is updated to show the adjusted number of available licenses. This value indicates that the number of assigned licenses now exceeds the number of available licenses for the selected base license. To avoid being oversubscribed, select a different base license or contact your Absolute Sales representative to purchase more licenses.

    2. Under Add-On Licenses:

      1. View the list of add-on licenses associated with the selected base license. Add-on licenses with a blue background and no check box are included automatically with the base license. Add-on licenses with a white background and a check box are available for selection.
      2. Select each add-on license that you want to assign. Each selected add-on license now shows a blue background and a selected check box.

NOTE  If an add-on license is grayed out, you can't assign the license because the policy group contains more devices than there are licenses available, or the license is expired. To renew an existing product license or purchase more licenses, contact Absolute Sales.

      3. To remove a selection, click the license again.
  7. Click Done. The policy group's Settings page now shows its newly assigned licenses.

To view the status of your account's purchased licenses at-a-glance, go to the License Consumption widget on the Dashboard.
