Getting started with Insights
Before you can start using Absolute Insights to analyze your devices' data, you need to complete two key setup steps:
To add devices to Insights, you need to assign the Absolute Insights add-on license to one or more policy groups and ensure that all applicable policies are activated.
To configure your policy groups:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with Manage permissions for Policies and Licenses.
- On the navigation bar, click Policies > Policy Groups.
- On the Policy Groups sidebar, click the policy group containing the devices that you want to add to Insights. The policy group opens.
- Click Settings.
- Click Assign Licenses and select the Absolute Insights add-on license.
- Click Done and click Close to close the confirmation dialog.
- On the Settings page, verify that all applicable policies are activated. For example, if you want to view device usage information in Insights, you need to activate the Device Usage policy.
-
When Absolute Insights is enabled for your account, you can also collect application usage information from your Windows and Mac devices and view it in Insights. Learn more
To collect application usage information:
- Activate the Installed Application policy if it is not activated.
- On the Settings page, select the Include Usage data (only visible in Insights) checkbox that shows under the Installed Application policy.

- Repeat steps 3 to 8 for each applicable policy group.
Absolute Insights uses its own database to store device data. Therefore, to view your devices in Insights, Absolute needs to perform an initial data import to add the last 30 days of historical device data to the Insights database. After the data import is complete, the Insights database is automatically updated as new data becomes available in the Secure Endpoint Console.
NOTE It may take up to 2 hours for new Secure Endpoint Console data to be available in Insights.
For Absolute to start the data import process, the following preconditions must be are met:
- An Absolute Insights add-on license is assigned to at least one policy group (as described in the previous section)
- An authorized user has accepted the Absolute Insights service agreement
To accept the service agreement and begin the data import process:
- Log in to the Secure Endpoint Console as a user with View or Manage permissions for Insights.
-
On the navigation bar, click Insights.
The Absolute Insights terms & conditions page opens.
- Review the service agreement and click Agree to accept it.
The data import process starts. Note that this process can take up to 48 hours depending on the number of devices and the amount of historical data being imported.
NOTE If you try to access Insights before the data import process is complete, you are presented with the following message:
We're preparing to make your data available in Insights. Try again later.
