Accessing the Custom Data area
In the Policies > Custom Data area, you can configure and activate the Custom Data policy to collect information that is not currently captured by Absolute from your Windows devices.
You want to ensure your devices are not affected by newly issued Common Vulnerability and Exposures (CVEs). If the devices are affected, you need to identify and retrieve those devices for remediation. You can activate the Custom Data policy to collect this type of information using data points that are enabled for one or more policy groups.
A data point is a JSON file that is configured to collect information from your Windows devices. A data point can be used to retrieve the following types of information:
- hardware and software data accessible through Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) queries
- settings, options, or other data available in the Windows Registry
- hash values of files on the device
- existence of files on a device
The data point file contains a field name for the data point, the data type being returned, and the query expression that is executed on the device. The values returned can be one of the following data types:
- datetime (ISO 8601 string), for example: 2020-08-05T14:23:01.000Z
There are two types of data points in the Custom Data policy: Custom data points and Default data points. Custom data points are data points that you add to the Custom Data policy. The Default data points are part of the DataExplorer Library and are automatically included in the Custom Data policy.
To configure the Custom Data policy, your user role must be granted Manage permissions for Custom Data Collection and Policies. All default Administrator roles are granted these permissions.
All users can add Custom Data policy columns to reports and view the Custom Data Points on the device's Details page.
To access the Custom Data area:
Log in to the Absolute console as a user with Manage permissions for Custom Data Collection and Policies.
