Viewing a device's software information

On the Software page you can view detailed information about the software detected on a Windows, Mac, or Android device. You can access the Software page from any page that shows linked device identifiers in the results grid.

The Software page applies only to devices with an active Software policy.

NOTE   Depending on the Absolute product licenses associated with your account, Software policies may not be available.

To view the software information for a device:

  1. On any page that shows linked device identifiers in the first column of the results grid, such as the Assets > Devices page, click the link for the device that you want to view. Overview information about the device shows in the page header.
  2. Click the Software tab.
  3. The following information about the device shows near the top of the page:

    Column

    Description

    Application Name

    Name of the software application installed and detected on the device

    Applications are aggregated into sections by publisher and then suite. You can collapse and expand these sections.

    Application Version

    Version or build number of the software application

    File Name

    Name of the executable file A computer file containing a program or a set of scripts that run when the file is opened. Windows executable files use the .exe extension; other platforms use various extensions. associated with the software application

    File Path

    The directory where the executable file associated with the software application resides on the device

    Column

    Description

    Publisher

    Name of the software publisher of the application

    Suite

    Name of the publisher suite for the application

    If no suite exists, Standalone Applications is shown.

    Application Name

    Name of the software application installed and detected on the device

    Application Version

    Version or build number of the software application

    File Name

    Name of the executable file A computer file containing a program or a set of scripts that run when the file is opened. Windows executable files use the .exe extension; other platforms use various extensions. associated with the software application

    File Version

    Version or build number of the executable file

    Detected Date

    The date and time when the software application was detected on the device

    File Path

    The directory where the executable file associated with the software application resides on the device

    To return to the software summary view, click Overview.

  1. The information is sorted by Application Name, in ascending order. To sort the information by another column, click the applicable column header. To reverse the sort order, click the column header again. An icon indicates whether the list is sorted in ascending or descending order.
  2. To find a specific software application installed on the device in either the summary view or the detailed view, perform a search.
