Managing message templates
You can manage the message templates associated with your account by viewing, editing, duplicating, and deleting them.

To manage End User Message templates, your user role needs to be granted the Manage permission for Send Message. All default roles, except the Guest User role, are granted this permission.
To manage Freeze message templates, your user role needs to be granted the Manage permission for Device Freeze. The System Administrator, Security Administrator, and Security Power User roles are granted these permissions.

To open and view the library of message templates, on the navigation bar, click Settings >
Messages.. The Messages page opens to show all your existing message templates.

- On the Messages page, leave All selected or click one of the following filters: End User Message or Freeze Message.
- In the Search field begin typing the name of the message template. Search results update dynamically as you type.

Click the background of the message template that you want to view.
The following information about the message template is shown:
- Message template name
- Date of the most recent update (as a relative date, such as 23 days ago). Hover over the relative date to view the exact date and time in a tooltip.
- User that last updated the template
- Message content
If your user role is granted Manage permissions, you can edit, duplicate or delete the message template.
- Click anywhere on the message template's background. The message overview dialog opens to the right of the work area.
- To close the message overview dialog, click
.

- On the Messages page, hover over the message template's row to display the quick action bar and click
(Edit). The message editor opens. Note that you can also edit a template from its overview dialog.
- To update the message name, click the name and edit it.
- Edit the image and message text, as required.
- Click Preview and review your message to confirm that it will display to users as expected. If you need to make any further changes, click
(Back).

When you're done, do one of the following:
- To save your changes to the existing template, click Message template updated event is logged to Event History. . A
- To save your changes to a new template, click Save as new copy. The template is added, and a Message template created event is logged to Event History.
If you edited a template that is currently in use by an Offline Freeze rule, you will need to reassign the template to the rule for the changes to be applied.

You can create a copy of an existing message template and edit it to suit your needs.
- On the Messages page, hover over the message template's row to display the quick action bar and click
(Make a copy). The message editor opens. Note that you can also duplicate a template from its overview dialog.
- Click the name of the message and edit it.
- Edit the image and message text, as required.
- Click Preview and review your message to confirm that it will display to users as expected. If you need to make any further changes, click
(Back).
- When you're done, click .
The template is added, and a Message template created event is logged to Event History.

Deleting a template does not affect any outstanding requests that used the template.
- On the Messages page, hover over the message template's row to display the quick action bar and click
(Delete). Note that you can also delete a template from its overview dialog or in edit mode.
- Click .
The template is deleted, and a Message template deleted event is logged to Event History.
