Viewing installed applications

The Applications page shows summarized information about the applications installed on the active When this term is associated with a device, it indicates that the Secure Endpoint Agent on the device is actively connecting to the Absolute Monitoring Center. An Active device consumes a license unless its license expires, or no licenses are available when it is enrolled. Also see Agent status. devices in your account. If an Absolute Resilience product1 is associated with your account, it also shows information about the health of your installed applications.

The Applications page shows the applications installed on your active Windows and Mac devices only.

To detect the applications installed on your devices, the Installed Applications policy needs to be activated in one or more policy groups.

To view the Applications page, your user role needs to be granted View permissions for Software reports. All default user roles are granted this permission.

On the navigation bar, click Applications. The Applications page opens.

No filters are applied to the page, but you can refine the application list by adding filters based on the application name, device group, and publisher.

The Applications page includes application-related information, presented in the following columns:

The Application Health columns described below are available only when an Absolute Resilience product2 is associated with your account.

Column Details
Application

Shows the following information about the application:

  • Normalized name of the application
  • Detected application version number, or the number of unique versions detected on the devices in your account

To view information about the devices the application is installed on, click the application name.

Installed Shows the total number of installations of the application detected on the devices in your account
Application Health > Health

Shows a summary of the health of an application across all installations

Possible values:

  • <#> healthy: shows the count and percentage of healthy installations
  • <#> unhealthy: shows the count and percentage of unhealthy installations

  • Unknown: indicates that application health information is not available

    When any of the following conditions apply, application health information is unavailable and a status of Unknown is reported:

    • There is an issue with the application's installation, such as:
      • The Secure Endpoint Agent can't find or access the installation location.
      • The installation was not completed successfully.
    • The policies responsible for application health data collection were recently activated in the console.

      Data will begin to be available after devices check into the Absolute Monitoring Center and the policy is activated on each device.

    • The issue that caused a resilient application to be non-compliant is not included in the list of unhealthy reasons.
    • The policies responsible for application health data collection have been deactivated in the console.

To view more detailed information about the health of an application, click the background of its row to open a dialog to the right.
Application Health > Number of Unhealthy Shows the count of devices with a health status of Unhealthy
Application Health > Number of Healthy Shows the count of devices with a health status of Healthy
Application Health > Number of Unknown Health Shows the count of devices with a health status of Unknown
Publisher A company or organization selling software applications that is detected by a device's Secure Endpoint Agent and reported in the Secure Endpoint Console.

Shows the normalized publisher name

For example, Microsoft or Adobe.

How frequently is data collected from a device?

Absolute applies normalization to all publisher and application names that are detected on your devices. Normalization removes the naming inconsistencies that may exist within installed software, making it easier to search, filter, sort, and analyze your devices' applications in the Secure Endpoint Console. It also aggregates the data leading to more accurate reporting results.

For example, if the detected publisher for an installed Windows application is Microsoft Corporation, while another Windows application is Microsoft Corp., the normalized publisher name Microsoft is used for both applications.

Similarly, if the detected application name on one device is SecureDoc Disk Encryption 8.3 (x64), while another is SecureDoc Disk Encryption (x86) 7.5, the normalized application name SecureDoc Disk Encryption is used for both devices.

Normalization is applied to all publisher and application names shown on the Applications page and each application's device list view page. Normalized application names are also shown in the Application report column. You can add this column to most application reports and pages using the icon.

Detected application names are shown in the Application name report column. This column is shown by default in the Installed Applications report and on a device's Applications tab in Device Details.

You can work with the Applications page in the following ways:

You can search for an application by application name, version number, or publisher.

To search for an application, enter all or part of the keyword in the search field and click Search or press Enter.

By default, the page's data is sorted by the Installed column, in descending order. To sort the data by another column, click the column heading. To reverse the sort order, click the column heading again.

You can favorite the applications that you're most interested in:

  • To favorite an application, click its (Add to Favorites) icon in the first column. The icon updates to (Remove from Favorites).
  • To only show your favorite applications, select the Only show favorites checkbox in the top right of the page. To show all applications again, clear the checkbox. Note that your selected view persists across user sessions until you change it.
  • To remove an application from your favorites, click its (Remove from Favorites) icon. The icon updates to (Add to Favorites).

You can change the information shown on the page by updating its columns:

  • To remove columns that you want to hide, click > Edit columns.
  • To save your changes and create a custom view of the page, click > Save columns. Your custom view persists until you revert to the page's default view.
  • To revert to default view, click > Reset columns.

You can export the Applications page to a report in CSV, Excel, or XML format. If desired, you can filter the page before exporting it.

To export the page, click (Export).

Application version numbers are not included in the exported report.

While you are viewing a page or report, its data is not updated dynamically as new data becomes available. To show the most recent data available in the system, such as information that was just uploaded from a device, click the icon in the bottom left of the page. The Last updated field updates to the current date and time.

This section only applies if an Absolute Resilience product3 is associated with your account.

On the Applications page, you can view summarized information about an application without leaving the page.

To do so, search for the application and click the background of its row. A dialog opens to the right of the grid showing the following information:

  • Application name
  • Publisher
  • Count of detected versions
  • Count of installations

    To view more detailed information about the application's installations, click View Application.

  • Installation Summary: contains three charts showing the overall state of all installations of the application

    Shows the percentage of devices that the application is installed on

    Hover over each section to view the number of devices with the application installed, or not installed.

    The total device count shown in this chart reflects the total devices in all policy groups where at least one of the required policies is activated. Note that any Chromebook devices in these policy groups are included in the total device count.

    Healthy

    Shows the health status (Healthy, Unhealthy, Unknown) breakdown across all installations

    The percentage of healthy installations shows in the center of the chart. Hover over a section to view the count of devices with each status.

    v<version #>

    Shows up to 3 versions that are detected most often

    If more versions are detected, they are included in Others. The most frequently detected version shows below the chart, while its percentage of total installations shows in the center.

    Hover over a section to view details about each detected version.

  • Health Summary: contains more information about the installations.

    If any installations are unhealthy, the number of errors detected in each health check stage shows. You can click the View Unhealthy link to see more detailed information about each unhealthy installation.

To close the dialog, click its icon.
